– Transformer coupled series resonant induction heater –
Induction heaters need a lot of power, this power can be only delivered efficiently with high voltage, any industrial IH uses single or three phase mains.
Low voltage is only good for prototyping. Using a lab power supply provides benefits like voltage and current limiting, so you don’t blow up your parts by mistake.
Series resonant tank properties :
Resonant frequency (empty coil) = 45kHz
Capacitance = 5µF
Stray inductance = 0,6µH
Coil inductance = 1,9µH
Overall inductance = 2,5µH
Max Capacitor voltage = 650Vrms
Max estimated current = 1000Irms
The voltage fed full bridge inverter is a very important part of the system, it converts the DC into high frequency. For that it needs a proper gate drive, cooling, decoupling caps and more probably.
Also important for efficient switching is dead time to prevent cross conduction.
The gate driver is not that good currently, no doubt since it’s my first one that I got working.
